A Petroleum Geochemical Database for the UK Continental Shelf
IGI’s strong experience in compiling and quality assuring petroleum geochemical databases has been recognized by the award of a large contract from the Oil & Gas Authority (OGA) to build a database for the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).
The project, which is being conducted in association with Lloyd’s Register, began in early June and will end at the end of March 2019. IGI’s main role is to extract and compile petroleum geochemical data from legacy reports and files, include well and stratigraphic information, and quality assure the resulting compiled geochemical database. Additional rock and fluid samples will be collected for geochemical analysis to provide more complete data coverage for the UKCS. The work will be split into five geographic areas: (1) Northern North Sea, (2) Central North Sea, (3) Southern North Sea, (4) West of Shetland & Rockall, and (5) Irish Sea, SW Approaches & English Channel. Geochemical data for onshore wells will also be included in the database, assigned to the most appropriate offshore segment. Overview reports of the database contents and the key petroleum systems will be produced for each of the areas.
On completion of the project, the geochemical and supporting geological databases will be made available by the OGA to both industry and academia. The OGA press release can be found here: https://www.ogauthority.co.uk/news-publications/news/2018/new-contracts-awarded-to-help-stimulate-ukcs-exploration-activity/
We are delighted to be able to produce this extensive geochemical database for the UKCS which should comprise an extremely valuable resource to encourage and support exploration activity around the UK.
