How to use in practice

Static Sample Sets

A static sample set is a collection of samples. The samples stored based on their identity, and not any filter expression as is the case for dynamic sample sets. This means that edits / changes to a static sample set can only occur manually, with samples in a static sample set having been placed into or deleted from the static sample set by the user. The only exception to this is when a sample is deleted from the project, in which case it is also removed from any static sample sets.

Static sample sets can be created from or added to either via a Page or a Graph (p:IGI+ only), but removal of samples from a static sample set can only occur through interaction with Page.

Static Sample Sets Using Pages

StaticSampleSetCreate

Samples can be picked from any data page by selecting sample / row ids (these are presented on the far left of all pages in blue). Bulk and multiple sample select are available using Shift+Left Mouse button or Ctrl+Left Mouse button respectively.

Once the desired samples are selected, Right Click and choose Add selected samples to a static sample set... from the context menu.

The Add samples to a static sample set dialogue enables you to either add samples to an Existing static samples set using the drop down list of currently defined static sample sets, or create a New static sample set which you must name. For both options the user is provided summary information about the number of new samples in the selected set, and when being added to an existing static sample set, how many are already in that set. No duplication of samples can occur within static samples sets.

To remove samples from a static samples set, drag the desired static sample set onto any open page. Select the sample / row ids you wish to remove, Right Click and choose to Remove selected samples from static samples set: xxxx, where xxxx will be the name of the static sample set applied to the page. This will only remove the selected samples from the static sample set, not the project database.

This action can be reversed using Undo (Ctrl+Z).

Static Sample Sets Using Graphs (p:IGI+ only)

Sample sets can be created from graphs, utilising the Exploration tab tools within Graph Manager; Brush & Rectangle selection of samples enables the Add to static sample set... tool icon once selected.

On selecting to add samples to a static sample set from a graph, the same Add samples to a static sample set dialogue is used, as described above.

To remove samples from a created Static samples set, drag the desired static sample set onto any open page as described above.

For p:IGI-3 users

Static sample sets provide what in p:IGI-3 was called the "sample bucket" but in a more flexible form. Multiple "sample buckets" (static sample sets) can be created, and the samples within these edited on pages, added to and removed in a very flexible and convenient manner.
