Exploring Pages

Overview

Pages are spreadsheet like views onto the relational database which underlies p:IGI+ and Metis Transform and show the values of properties (columns) across samples (rows). Pages within p:IGI+ and Metis Transform provide a comprehensive and flexible way to view, organise, validate, interact with and edit project data.

Version: 1.14.0.x (Nov 2018)

Usage:  Existing pages accessed and opened from the artefact manager

How to use in practice

Data Pages

In contrast to p:IGI-3 where a properties associated analytical technique was loosely inferred from the page title on which it was located (in certain cases several analytical techniques were present on a single page e.g. Pyrolysis / Hydrocarbons), in p:IGI+ and Metis Transform properties are clearly and individually linked to an analytical method. The concept of pages within the software has thus changed from an association with analysis type, as was the case in p:IGI-3, to being just a view onto a desired selection of properties (any property or group of properties from any analysis group can be arranged as wished on any page).

Every project contains a preliminary set of data pages organised into categorised folders, sub-divided to provide Analysis views and Interpretation views:

  • Analysis View folder: pages are divided into folders based on analytical approach and each page relates to an associated property Analysis Group.
  • Interpretation View folder: Pages gather properties from a common Petroleum Systems Analysis (PSA) interpretation theme e.g maturation or source deposition.

The Well and Outcrop Sample summary pages provide an overview of the samples, for properties associated with well and non-well (e.g. outcrop) locations respectively, providing information relating to the sample: location, type, stratigraphy, depth, lithology and identity.

There is no limit to the number of pages a user can have within a project and the initial set of pages present when a project is started are completely customisable

Column Types

Pages are a collection of either predefined (either by IGI or another user) or user chosen geochemical properties for which there may or may not be data loaded in the project. There are a variety of different columns types which may be encountered.

col types

Key Columns (A&B): A reference information column which appears at the beginning of every page (if activated) - these are frozen to ensure they are always visible on a horizontal scroll. Column behaviour is exactly the same as if on the page, depending on the column type e.g. text column with pick list. Data can be edited in a Key Column and changes will update the property on all other pages on which that property occurs. Manual copy of the column contents is permitted.

Well Name Column (B): A special text column with a pick list. The pick list displays all pre-existing project wells. Manual import is permitted on a single cell basis only and if this consists of a new entry the system will auto create a new well. Data can be copied.

Text Column (Ca): A column capable of accepting alphanumeric data. There are no strong limitations on the length of text that can be entered here, but care should be taken to avoid inserting special characters, for example end of line or line feed characters.

Text Column with Pick List (Cb): An alphanumeric column, accompanied with a suggested pick list of entries created from the associate property codelist. Text here is limited to 400 characters.

Numeric Column (D): A column capable of accepting numerical data. Data should always be entered using a full stop "." as the decimal separator, even when the computer on which the software is running uses a locale that employs a different decimal separator.

Calculated Column (E): Calculation columns possess associated formulae to derive a value from raw data. If the required equation input raw data is present, and there is an absence of manual data, then the cell will auto-calculate (orange fill+green text). Manual typing (white fill+black text) is permitted to the column cells and this will overwrite the auto-calculated values. To force calculation of a value delete the contents of the cell. Note for any calculated value, if any of the inputs change the value will immediately and automatically be recalculated.

Well Information Column (F): Apart from the Well Name column (B), all well information columns are display only columns. They are locked for edit through the page, and can only be accessed through well artefacts. These columns can be copied.

Collated Any Column (G): Any columns are display only columns which gather information from the relevant properties that contribute to the selected .Any property. These columns are locked for manual edit. Editing of the property values needs to happen in the individual property columns, and automatically updates the .Any column. Manual copy of the columns contents is permitted, however the source is not copied, only the value.

Flag Columns (H): True (1) or False (0) columns. They are locked for manual edit through the page, only accessed through the import pipeline. These are not currently widely used in the system.
