Course Summary and learning objectives

Software training

The IGI software training course aims to provide attendees with the knowledge, skills and confidence required to successfully manage, access and interpret their geochemical data.

For both learning paths; data management or data Interpretation,  the course will use the latest version of the software to provide a balanced mix of practical hands-on exercises, open forum discussions and presented material learning.

Who should attend this course?

The IGI software multi-client training course is suitable for all geochemical data users  (data loaders/managers, geochemists, geologists, petroleum systems analysts) that are:
  • Familiar with p:IGI-3 and wish to learn about p:IGI+ in order to transition to the latest software version
  • New users of p:IGI+, ig.NET & Metis who want to gain formal instructor-led training in our software
  • Current users of p:IGI+, ig.NET & Metis looking to undertake periodic training to keep abreast of enhancements and new software features

Course content

Using Microsoft Teams Meetings and our online learning platform Moodle, course material is broken into a series of topics which starts by introducing IGI's software and then follows a workflow that would be commonly followed by geochemical data loaders (Metis Users) and interpreters (p:IGI+ Users) respectively.

Note: The course assumes interpretation users start with a blank project and import data directly themselves. IGI acknowledges that different companies will each implement IGI software differently into their geochemical working practice, and so the topic of Import will also deal with the download of data from a centralised Metis database (when all software is integrated).

Moodle Learning Platform

  • The Moodle learning platform allows the IGI's software training course to be split into topics, each covering a specific area of the application.
  • Each topic will be comprised of a series of lessons which can contain one of a number of activities such as instruction and files for breakout exercises, content delivery through a video series with accompanying resources or short quizzes to ensure understanding.
  • An example of a short lecture video is provided introducing Artefacts in p:IGI+ / Metis Transform. Artefacts are project items made to enable users to locate, view, filter, compare and interpret project data. Here a short introduction to each of the available artefact types is given:

  • Access to Moodle and all the course resources (including the software) will be given for the duration of the course and for a set duration following it to ensure comprehensive learning.
  • This approach to software learning acknowledges that applications are often learnt through practice and that attendees learn in different ways and at different rates.
